This evaluation is based on a longitudinal survey carried out over two years concerning 1 500 pupils who started secondary school. Some of them were initiated in English in the last two grades of Primary school (experimentation launched by the Ministry of Education), the other pupils had started learning English at Secondary School. Two kinds of results were obtained : first, we described a certain number of factors that influence pupils' acquisitions in English ; second, we tried to show the extent to which the outcome of early initiation explains the differences between pupils during the secondary school. International audience; Ce rapport est basé sur une enquête longitudinale qui a consisté à suivre pendant deux ans un échantillon de 1500 élèves entrant au collège. Certains de ces élèves avaient bénéficié d'un enseignement de l'anglais à l'école primaire dans le cadre d'une expérimentation mise en place par le ministère de l'Éducation nationale, d'autres débutaient cet apprentissage au collège. Multigrade teaching in primary education has often been criticized because this context was assumed to be detrimental for student learning. After having shown that this assumption was empirically wrong, the paper stresses that students who went through this type of education at the primary level perform (better learning and less repetition) also better in lower secondary school.

Research into pedagogy in museums underlines the double tranposition of the theory principles of the science media and of psycho-pedagogy. At stake is understanding why and how pupils can build their scientific learning in a museum environment. This present contribution will propose a reflection on this issue based on the example of the teaching of volcanism on Réunion Island. The analysis of interviews conducted with teachers in first schools and secondary schools shows to what extent the pupils benefit from a significant pedagogical impact in the framework of their visits to the thematic museum in Piton de la Fournaise. A survey was carried out during two years with 1500 pupils at the beginning of the secondary school. It consists to assess the results of the pupils in English language : some of them were initiated to English in the Primary school. The results of the research allow to describe some factors which influence pupil's acquisitions in English language and to assess the effects of the "early" initiation : in fact, these seem to be very slight.
